1960's Polack Bros. #10

"Kae" walked backward on her hind legs which drew comment from other elephant trainers when in fact I never could get her to walk forward and let it go at that.

She must have felt comfortable walking backward. Don't most elephants like to know where they are going and what is in front of them? Watching elephants unload from the Ringling train, I always noticed them checking things with their trunks before they would step onto the unloading ramp.
