Uniforms! #1

From Darlene Williams:
"Buckles, what is the reason that the elephant men usually dressed in military attire? It looks nice, neat, and uniform. But is there a particular reason?"

Interesting question! The fashion goes back a long time.
Here am I in the year of our Lord 1957 in a Band Uniform I managed to come up with.

Nice picture buckles but I still wonder how the military uniforms came into play. Could it have anything to do with war time when the elephants carried artillery? Jim, you are too funny, a trumpet person playing naked!!!

Look at the wardrobe of the late 19th-century, and early 20th-century cat trainers. Thoae worn by Mabel Stark, Louis Roth, and many others, were designed as band-master uniforms. Theirs came from DeMoulin Bros., of Greenville, Illinois, which is still a thriving concern. I have 4 of Mabel's, with the DeMoulin tag inside her jackets.

To address DARLENE'S thoughts, I took the military and police style to indicate authority and the position of command. Note how many trainers were called Captain.
