The women of the Kayan tribe in Myanmar still wear the neck rings, but the younger women are choosing not to do it. Even some of the older women have taken the coils from around their necks.
With all due respect, I read years ago that once these women had these rings in place for any length of time they could not remove them because their atrophied neck muscles could not support their heads and they would suffocate.
Certainly makes sense, PAUL. But if the younger Kayan girls abandon the tradition, one dreads to think the Ubangi girls will 86 those plates in their lips. Is nothing sacred?
