Winter was a sports illustrator for the "Seattle Times" and once won a Golden Globe for a portrait of DiMaggio. This artwork somehow got to Burtis Wilson of Chicago, whose collection eventually went to Fred Pfening, Jr. Fred and I used to do a little horse-trading and I acquired the piece in 1967. Kept it until this year.
Interesting point: the artwork originally said "Clyde R Beatty" but the R had been whited out before Cole Bros used it in their programs. All these years later the white has flaked off and once again reads "Clyde R Beatty." His middle name was Raymond.

That is to say, Jack who? Can't make it out.
