Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez, L, is known as among Filmland's most beloved character actors. It was said he was "The actor so nice, they named him twice." Fans are surprised that he was American by birth, born May 24, 1925, in Aguilares, Texas. He was raised on small Mexican circuses, known as "carpas", and gave valuable oral history to the Hertzberg Circus Collection, in San Antonio. He served in World War II. His one marriage, to Leandra, lasted 66 years, until his death in 2006, at 80. When John Wayne didn't have a role for him, he paid Pedro $20,000 a week just to secure him from other producers. His grandson, Clifton Collins, Jr., enjoys a thriving acting career, scoring big as killer Perry Smith, opposite Oscar-winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman, in CAPOTE.
