Joe Applegate had the Big Top on the Beatty show during filming of RING OF FEAR, and landed a speaking role. His dialog addressed his love for Pepsi-Cola. Dave Price tells the story, better than I can, of the time Joe left the show. Suddenly, it was tear-down night, and staffers realized they didn't know the loading order for the train--only Applegate did. Someone knew where he lived in the vast LA megalopolis, knocked on his door, and laid it upon his heart to come load the show. The old showman was the only reason the train rolled that night, and other staffers took careful notes for which wagon was next up the runs.
