Bobby Gibbs with his "Siberian Zebra Fantasy". He told me,"if they couldn't figure out Siberian zebra = phony, let them believe they're real zebras." Not the greatest paint job but if they're moving quickly in a 3-ring display probably looks good.
Years ago, on a visit to Tijuana we ran into a "photo op". On each corner there was a zebra and a photographer waiting to take the tourist's picture, complete with a sombrero, astride his painted pony. The grinos were lined up for the opportunity.
I first saw this grope of critters when Walt King started them quite a good paint job on them ,Pulled into San Antonio Tex to open on the then Texas dates quite a show back in the day, three rings two stages in short five ring displays, I saw the beast in question from a far and was quite impressed till got within 50 feet and began to relies what was actual there .I believe that was there first show to perform in.no one seamed to take note what they were but zebra as time went on when Gibbs bought them the art work began to get quite fuzzy and were once again sold and there strips just faded away but than became the Alaskan white snow zebra's they were around a quite long time they worked well.
Charlie and Beverly Allen had a legit zebra, Zulu, whom they trained very tediously for years. He was the one who nearly tore my hand off during production of DR. DOLITTLE, at 20th Century-Fox, that day on Stage 21. But Charlie told me of the little boy who enthused over first seeing Zulu. "Look, mom! A zebra!" The mom said, "No, kid. It's only a painted horse. These are circus people."
As you can tell by this slim guy it is not Bobby. It could be our brother Buck who worked the awhile. Roger i started that Zebra for Charlie and he was tough. I had just finished my rodeo days and would some times just ear him down to do any thing with him.
