To Larry Louree

It was a pretty heavy prop.
When my father put his own act together we had one of those steel globes to load and unload until "Anna May" outgrew it (not to mention the track she rolled it on) and was replaced by a barrel, much better I could stand it on end and stuff other things inside when traveling.

While I was building the lighted column

bottle walk for Charly (& Taurus) they

welded up a steel practice version that

took 3 men & a boy to move around

I would think this is far more difficult

& uncomfortable for an elephant than a cat

I believe the elephant's toe bones are at

the front & sides perimeter of the foot

Thanks for explaining this. Were the vertical parts regular plumbers type pipe or some type of structural type of pipe?

Either way, they probably were some very heavy suckers!

Since the practice bottle bridge

I mentioned Larry was for a cat

it looked a little different than

the photo above but it was made

of structural 4" pipe & 2" x 8"

rectangular tube & the top discs

were of quarter inch steel which

all added up to plenty of kilos

The finished prop however was

built primarily of aluminum but

the cylinders were of rolled

expanded steel welded to rings

at the tops & square plates at

the bottoms for attachments

The top discs were of aluminum

in pairs separated by thin foam

to allow the slight compression

which activated the microswitch

to light each column in turn

Although it was possible to be

handled by Charly it would have

been awkward to pass it to him

It ended up being suspended in

the area above the arena until

it was lowered in for Taurus

(more than you ever asked for)

That's awesome, Chic! Great info and it helps me picture how it was built. I like how you made the switches work.
