I heard somewhere that zebras are hard to work with as the will be very gentle and cooperative and smart and do the same simple thing like go in their stall calmly for weeks, the out of nowhere the turn stupid and act as if they've never seen you before and act like a bucking bronco on crack trying to get away from you or defend themselves from you because they think you are a Lion or something? It was explained to me they aren't a horse and don't think that way. Can anybody share their experiences?
I have heard that they can do a pretty good job of biting and kicking if they go off the deep end. I saw a video of a Lioness that had been kicked by a Zebra, which resulted in a broken jaw which eventually caused her to starve to death.
my niece jennifer walker is currently presenting a six zebra liberty act on soul circus.i trained a zebra for my sister acouple of years ago . they are not a horse they are simply an African animal need i say more, always challenging and iteresting. sincerely, cindy herriott wells

This could be taken on the Leonard Bros. Circus in 1956. I remember seeing this act in my youth but didn't see the chimp act I believe he had at the time.
As to Bobby's white mini-mules: It all depended on the dye job. Sometimes they looked like plains zebras (if they kept moving and you weren't too close), sometimes like a kid took a magic marker to a white mule.
I beg to differ about the zebras. They are indeed members of the family Equidae, which includes horses, donkeys and asses - -you can look it up. In fact there are instances of zebras being bred to horses.
The most savage animal I ever saw in a zoo (Memphis)was a male Grevy zebra (biggest of the zebras) in his stall in the barn. The top part of the stall was of chicken wire and he would leap up biting the wire and shaking it violently trying to get out at me. That in addition to kicking the walls of the stall.
But zebras always make nice circus presentations. I'm glad to see that there are several trainers working them today.

Bobby Gibbs solved the problem
by painting his own crossbreeds
(they looked pretty silly)
Huh Casey
My father said they were half mule and half tiger.

I think what Cindy meant was they
were of very different temperment
than horses (not their species)
She is obviously of a family who
are VERY knowledgeable of horses
It appears that whatever folks
attended this performance they were
all down in the blues (cheap seats)
while the reserved hardwood section
looks totally empty
