Ted Bowman a real friend to all us fans and liked collecting route cards. D. R. Miller, Mr. Circus, and what stories he had about the way it was. Johnny Pugh said one day D. R. was wondering around in the back yard of Beatty Cole and Johnny asked can I help you, D. R. said I just want to se how it is done right. Those were the days and Carson and Barnes was all circus. Harry in Texas
No one believed C&B would show up with 17 elephants on Langley AFB, VA! Quite a sight to see all those elephants and the Friesians grazing on the lot with F-15s in the background.
Charlie Campbell indeed. That's Bob Brisendine (the circus route expert) between me and DR. This was on the Snellville, Ga lot on 16 October 1981. I'm the only one of these greats still standing.
Sure looks like Charlie although I remember him when had a few more pounds on his frame. Charlie was GM for a time on Hagen Wallace shopping center show and also had Marie O'Day's Palace Car at one time. Dave Price can give you more details. Dub Dugan had that shopping center show out.
Charlie had a guy named (believe it or not) Doc Toombs who manned the "Palace Car" of Marie. I saw this outfit by accident- I was driving through some small town and there it was so I parked and went in and chatted with Doc.
Last time I saw Charlie was when Buffalo Bill Carson brought him to our trailer one night. They must have been to a Characters Convention.
Next time I saw Bill he brought Art Miller to the trailer. Last time I ever saw Art too.
As Richard said above, I'm the last one standing of this group.
Years ago I was listening to Larry King one night; Kenneth Feld was the guest and someone called in from Atlanta to tell about the RBBB elephants who died in 1941 from poison in Atlanta or shortly thereafter. Feld said he had never heard the story. When the CHS met in Atlanta I asked Brisendine if that had been him and he said it was.

Is that Charlie Campbell in glasses? That's Richard Reynolds at right.
