Dinner Table Number!

Everybody remembers the Barber Shop skit (as seen in this phonied up picture) but I always thought the Dinner Table number was much more entertaining.
"Lydia" was again seated like this with a table and dinner bell placed before her and if you think watching Anna May learn how to pick up and put down a razor was taxing, imagine ringing a dinner bell and replacing it upright without tipping it over.
After ringing the bell, a waiter (myself) would arrive with some bread in a plate then after ringing a second time I brought a pail of water which she would blow out toward the audience, the announcer's cue to say, "I think Jumbo wants something a little stronger! I then returned with a wooden Champagne bottle which she would pick up, take a few swigs, tip over the table, stagger around the ring and finally collapse.
At this point Anna May would enter wearing a Policeman's hat and carrying a baseball bat where upon she would smack Lydia on the ass a few times, put the bat in her mouth, walk around front, grab her by the trunk, pull her up on her knees and drag her crawling to the back of the ring, arise, bow and exit.
I remember describing this piece of business to the Sullivan people and never looked into blanker faces however my father worked it on the Seal Test Big Top Show minus the drunkiness  and Police Arrest.
I might add that my father mentioned to me he had seen it done in Vaudeville with a Chimp in a tuxedo used as the waiter.

Wish I had seen that skit. Sure sounds like it would be funny. I did enjoy the barber shop skit at Circus World, Florida quite a few times. Always was a treat and funny. Anna May would pull it off in her usual manner.
