"Opal's" regular appearance on the Ed Sullivan show was established long before we arrived on the Show and afforded us a nice annual stipend from the Sullivan people. However one year all we got was a Statement from the IRS and after further investigation discovered the check had been cashed by Agent Al Dobritch. Needless to say Mrs. Woodcock was somewhat upset and when the next year rolled around refused to go and threatened me with bodily harm if I didn't follow suit. Surprising what a flap this turned into, from the Sullivan people, Sullivan's Son In Law Producer Bob Precht and the TV people. The final upshot was I took "Opal" out of the act and sent her up to New York and continued on with the other five, Barbara and Ben were flown up to a Hotel in Manhattan and also included in the deal was the Shrine Potentate from the date we were playing who for releasing "Opal" insisted on being introduced from the seats during her appearance. Such was the power of the Ed Sullivan Show in those days.
