Blue Show #10

I'll never forget the '78 opening night in Venice.
Performance Director Charly was a nervous wreck, new elephants, new elephant people and as we waited behind the curtain for Menage he was giving me last minute instructions on exactly what to do when Ted Svertesky comes up and asks, "Mr. Bauman,, when we go in, do I go into the first round place? or the second? and "Do I take in this many elephants? (holding up three fingers) or this many? (holding up five) I saw the color start to drain from Charley's face and I assured him "Don't worry Charly, he knows what round place to go into".
And what a night. my mother was there as well as D.R. Miller with a contingent from Hugo.

I chuckled as I read this. Knowing as well
As I did, I can just see the look on Charley's
Face. Ted was a Great Guy!

Great story Buckles. Knowing you crew, they probably would have found their way their pretty much on their own, if Ted had gotten confused. LOL.

Don't think I ever met Ted, but sounds like a great guy, so sorry we lost him so early.

I very well remember that opening night..I was Charlys groom and the tiger act was the last thing on his mind that night..he was very calm during his opening tiger act but then turned into PD and I stayed well away from him.
