Gunther as Rhett Butler during the “Salute to Hollywood” opening of the Red Unit’s 119th Edition (the Gunther Farewell Tour.) For this segment, the band played the “Tara” theme from Max Steiner’s score for GONE WITH THE WIND. The opening then segued into Gunther’s liberty horse act. (For that edition, Gunther’s tiger act was part of the spec that closed the first half.)
The first Circus photos I remember taking were of Gunther in the Garden in 1969. After seeing not even all that he did I said to myself, "My God! This man is wonderful!" and my opinion has never changed. I took this photo. Gunther autographed it for me at a book signing date in a RBBB store in NJ.
