From Eric Beheim

In his autobiography ALL IN A LIFETIME, Frank Buck devotes about 2 pages to the year he spent with Ringling. Here are some highlights from what he wrote about his circus experiences during the 1938 season:
I received a telephone call from John Ringling North, head of the Ringling Bros.-Barnum and Bailey Circus. He wanted a feature attraction for the coming year and was I interested? . . . the offer was so good -- $1,000 a week for thirty-three weeks and 25 per cent of all souvenirs sold – that I couldn’t reject it . . . Besides, there was the private car that was offered me . . . At a mature age I was at last doing what every boy would give his soul to do – I was traveling with “the greatest show on earth.”

25% of all souvenirs sold is a stretch.
Maybe they sold personalized items that he got a PC on.

Guess they got a lot for a Buck back then.

Absolutely. Frank Buck stuff, OK. The rest of it, never. After all, who'd get first count?
