Lighthouse Field in Philly

I've always liked the way Grace is looking at Mr Beatty- like she could eat him alive. Women found him very attractive.

On Lighthouse Field, in '64, when I joined out, Mr. Beatty was seen driving off the lot on several mornings. I had been designated as his driver, and wondered what was up when he left alone. I kept my curiosity to myself, but rumors flying around the lot had him visiting Grace and Ranier at the luxurious estate of old John Kelly, Grace's rough-and-tumble Irish father--a former layer of street bricks who made it big. The Kelly's were in Philadelphia's elite social register, even more so when Grace won her Best Actress Oscar for THE COUNTRY GIRL (1954). Much later, Jane Beatty confirmed a story not well circulated at the time. Grace and Ranier got Beatty appointments with the high society doctors most patients had to wait months to see. He had endless discomforts that worsened, until at long last, he sought help. These doctors missed diagnosing his cancer, which progressed until he had to leave the show for the first cancer surgery, in Billings Hospital, in Chicago. The rest of the long story has been recounted here many times.

Not as attractive as say an elephant man.

The royal couple would spend time in Ocean City, NJ where Mr. Kelly had an ocean-front summer home. It was not unusual to see Grace and the Prince in the front row when Hunt Bros was playing the resort town.

Ranier was obviously Europe's most ardent circus fan. His Monte Carlo awards are as coveted as Oscars, and thankfully, his progeny keeps the appeal and the prestige alive with the promise of a strong future.
