We do have a date but I believe it was 1946. All the menagerie cages were red from 1944 though 1947 with the exception of the gorilla cage in '47 which was white that year, I know it is not 1945 or 1947 because neither of the animals inside were on the show in those years.
They were an Indian blackbuck antelope (not a blackbok as the sign says) and in the rear compartment, an anoa - -a midget buffalo from the Celebes. The anoa went back to 1933 and was still with the show until the early 1950s though not on the road every year.

Cage was built by Moeller for the 1910 Forepaugh-Sells show using statues that were originally on the Orchestmelochor.
I think.
I also think it is now at Baraboo with three of these statues.
