Grandson Patrick graduates from High School this morning.
The event will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
Seems like yesterday Ben was graduating and what an evant that was.
It was 1972 and we were with Miller-Johnson Circus (first year under Vargas ownership) and my wife asked Cliff if it would be OK if Sandy Pettus replaced her in the elephant act for a couple of days so she could attend Ben's graduation and he agreed.
The next day he said, "Tell Barbara not to leave I just found out some important committees are coming to see the show!" so I passed the word on and as I feared she said, "You entertain the committees! I'm going to Florida!
So I had the unfortunate duty to explain that the Elephant Empress was gone and was confronted with the Death Scene from Camille!, "I have never seen such unprofessionals! You're fired! No you're not fired! I'm going to fire you both when she gets back!
The next day a taxi pulls up and all the show people are peeking around corners and out windows to see the confrontation as promised but were disappointed, Cliff raced up and they fell into each others arms like nothing had ever happened.
This Show Biz is alright!

God bless you Ben. Never forget you.
This was only the start of his education
His advanced degrees were achieved over
the years he spent in & out of the ring
Ben was a very smart individual and always had reading material handy. He learned eagerly and had a memory like like an elephant. He had many interests and he would master each one. He was so to say "gifted". His children follow his footsteps.
