Wire Acts! #1

His name was Smith but used "Hal Slivers" when he first went into Show Biz then after the John Ringling North "discovery", was renamed Hubert Castle.
I remember him well from the Cole Show and later when we played the Shrine dates in Canada, on closing day he would put the wire jacks on top of the station wagon, the coiled up wire in the back seat and spend the few days off up in the mountains fishing then come zooming in an hour before show time.
Pretty bad temper tho, I recall a couple of scuffles in the men's dressing room during card games when he would raise the stakes, lose, then jump up, tip over the table and storm out.
He had a son about my age, Hal Jr. I used to run around with.
Years later we made a lot of his dates with our act before he bought his own elephants.

My memories of being on his show are mixed. I got along with him all right, but had serious questions about respecting his outlook on far too many issues. Long story.
