In 1926, my mother's father, who was a freight conductor on the L&N, was in the wreck with the Christy train, which "plowed into" his train.

One report says this took place at Loretto, Alabama, but this is mistaken- the wreck was at Loretto, Tennessee, which is on the line between Columbia TN and Florence, AL.

My mother recalled him coming home and telling how the elephants helped move the various parts of the wreckage.

Really enjoy and appreciate hearing recollections such as this. My Mother's uncle was a conductor on the NY Central for years. I never heard one story.
