I've been in several blow downs but never one like this one in 1942.

Buckles,
Well tell us more about this blow down in detail please.
Harry in Texas
All that is written on the back of the picture is "Russell Bros. blowdown"
I believe this is a photograph of the aftermath of a blow down that occurred on the West Broad Street circus grounds in Richmond, Virginia in 1941. It was caused by what were at the time record high winds, but fortunately it occurred an hour before show time and there were no spectators in the tent at the time.
Alas, this knowledge does not come from firsthand recollection, but from research that Keith Webb and I have been doing for a forthcoming book on the Russell Brothers Circus.
JOSEPH: Go for the book. With circus vanishing before our eyes, capture this history for us, and keep us updated on its publication.
