Here are the whips favored for precision aim. The 12" to 18" stock is designed to throw the lash--in this case sometimes called the thong--so that the popper cuts cigarettes, rolls of paper, playing cards, etc. The cowboy's bullwhip, with its very short butt end, does not allow for this accuracy. The cat trainer's whip, a flat lash on a 3' twisted willow stock, has no accuracy capacity at all. It is intended to throw the crack of the popper up high, sending the report--the breaking of the sound barrier--out into the seats to thrill the boys and girls. Presently, I'm cutting a flat lash at the request of my friend, Ivan Henry.
