Judging from the image quality, these scenes were shot on
35mm film back in the days when black & white cinematography was still a
fine art. I have no information on
how these scenes were filmed, but it appears that the cameraman
(and perhaps an assistant) were inside the big cage along with Jules and the
lions. (The still photographer who
photographed the St. Louis Zoo’s lion act for the View-Master reel
that was released in 1951 was also inside the big cage.)
