A young, cocky actor just got cast in a major TV Western, and became SAG elegible. He shows up to pay his initiation fees and dues, and get registered. The guy at the desk says, no, we have an actor listed by that name, so you have to choose another one. The kid says, look, I like this name and I've practiced the autograph, so come on, now. No, the man said, it's a rule--no one can come into SAG with the name of any previously registered member. The actor said gimme the phone book. He fingers down a list, and says how about this one? The man checks and says, OK, that one's open. And with his finger on a name in a phone book, the kid became Michael Landon. Good going, Grace--it's Michael.
