1937 Cole Bros. #2

Although Clyde Beatty appears in this film and his name is prominently featured in the opening credits, I’ve never seen this film listed in his filmography. In fact, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) doesn’t even list this short subject among its titles. Ford Bond, the narrator for this short was a popular radio announcer back in the 1930s. Like Lowell Thomas, he also did the narrations for many old newsreel and short subjects.

The Beatty footage in this film was not shot with the rest of it, just added in. I think the rest must have been shot about 1940 after he had left the Cole show.

You might be thinking of the Castle Films subject HERE COMES THE CIRCUS, which was filmed around 1941. The Beatty footage in that one does not appear to have been filmed along with the other performance shots.

You're right Eric- that is what I was thinking of. I see a few pix down a shot of Beatty's cages so it must be from his days over there.
