"Jap" #2

I remember Jap well from the time my father worked Terrell Jacobs' elephants of which she was a member.
Of the other three smaller elephants, she loved "Modoc" but despised "Empress" an oddity that confronted me often throughout my career.
The next time I saw Jap was on the Dailey Show lot in 1948 when me and my folks were visiting.
That morning I spotted her working in harness (noticed the name on the breast strap) and said to the guy riding her, "Gee that Jap sure looks old! and he abruptly replied, "Punk!.....if you were as old as she is you'd look pretty bad too!"
Immediately I overheard someone mutter....."Smokey! that's Bill Woodcock's son.
