Wonder why they draped the seats
My cousin has lived in Amsterdam for many years. She told me that awhile back they named a city park after Mr. Douglas. He came for the ceremony , they had a parade, and he was wonderful and gracious throughout the day. A very happy birthday to one of Hollywood's finest.
The seats were draped as this was not a performance. The act was being auditioned for a European circus producer.
Kirk Douglas remains active in supporting the Los Angeles Mission, down on 5th Street, in the heart of L.A.'s Skid Row. He will quietly leak through the back door, put on an apron, and stand at the sink, helping wash the dishes. His wife sponsors the Anne Douglas Center for Women, over on nearby Winston Street. Many stars lend their names to charities, show up for photo-ops, and are never seen doing the work. The Douglases have had their hands on these projects from the beginning, and remain active beyond expectations, in face of their advanced ages. They recently donated another $5 million to these rescue missions.
Interviewed on his 98th birthday by the online Jewish Journal, he was asked that "As a world-renowned expert on women, how does one go about attracting the other gender, ... He responded with an anecdote:
“When I was courting Anne [his wife of 60 years] in Paris, I couldn’t get through to her,” Douglas said. “One day she agreed to go to the circus with me, and when the circus performers recognized me, they insisted that I participate in the show.
“I had no idea what I was supposed to do, but as a string of circus elephants trotted out, I followed them in my tuxedo with a shovel and broom and started to clean up what the elephants had left behind.”
Anne was still laughing when he took her home, and she bestowed her first good-night kiss on him."
