Every time I see an elephant band, I remember Hubert Castle telling me his was the first ever. Bert Pettus merely smiled and developed the act. In 1972, we had a stumble-bum prop boss, who tore down in Valentine, Nebraska, loaded out and made the long jump to Norfolk, only to discover he had left Hubert's elephant brass band props behind. It befell him to foot the bill for the hurried round-trip, and Corky Plunkett subbed for the shows he missed.
