The local CFA tent here in San Diego is named for Rose Gold. You mentioned in
the blog back in 2011 that when you asked Mr. Polack the best act that Polack
Bros Circus ever booked, he replied "Rose Gold". The Rose Gold Trio was an
aerial cradle act that headlined circuses around the world in the 1940's and
'50s.
We recently transferred some Rose Gold memorabilia from San Diego to the Milner Library's circus collection at Illinois State University. Included was Ms Gold's personal scrapbook that contains some interesting photos. |

The name "Gould" is shown here
There is nothing to compare with personal scrapbooks composed by our great performers. I hope they are well respected and preserved. I have the 4 of Mabel Stark's, and one, in particular, is crumbling. It is large and heavy, with all entries mounted on the old highly-acidic black scrapbook pages. My collaborator on Mabel's documentary, Leslie Zemeckis, came here to shoot my interview last month. She was entranced by these books, and carefully scanned each photo for selected inclusion in the film, and importantly for assured keeping.
Rose Gold was the name used in most of her American bookings including on Ringling and Polack Bros.
I believe Gould was her given name and used more often in Europe.
