Dick Fick with one of the little chitlins' gathered out of the audience to ride on a float pulled by an elephant.
Knowing what was about to happen some parents would flash bribe money at the ushers to have their kids selected and in the Garden this became a booming enterprise.
One night the shaft broke on one of the floats just as it was entering the back door and was hurriedly unloaded and pushed aside resulting in quite an aftermath.
I was immediately confronted by an assortment of ushers threatening to have Big Al toss me into the Harlem River.

That would never have happened
Buckles it would have been the
Hudson River (much closer)
That Easter 78 Garden date had
many exciting events as I recall
Some best forgotten
That lyric segment is from the
Broadway show "On The Town" that
has recently been revived with
terrific notices at the renamed
Lyric theater on 42nd Street
New York is a County as well as
a City & a State but singing it
3 times wouldn't fit the tune
My mother handled the Stocks and bonds for the gardens head usher for many years..nuff said !
Head Usher is kinda like having
the 1st inside "reserved" stand
All soft
