Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
This Seaboard Airline Railway station sat along Lemon Avenue at the Northwest corner of Main This is where Mattison's joint is now as an outdoor hangout I'm taking the Silver Star today out of Tampa heading up to NY That was the name of a Seaboard train many years ago & the only car of that vintage is 1 of the "Heritage" diners from the 50s
I found this photo recently for Kenny Dodd who asked me about the 2 different stations here We also had the Atlantic Coast Line station on North Main where it abutted the rail tracks
Amtrak now provided dedicated bus service to meet either the Star in Tampa or the Meteor in Orlando This will be my 6th sleeper trip in the last year & a half
This the "new" Seaboard Air Line RR station on Orange St in Sarasota. It's where Gargantua was unloaded when he arrived in town to become the super animal star of the GSOE.The tracks ran right down the middle of Orange St.
Have a nice trip Chic. Not many train rides like that out west here anymore. Send me a e mail.
Sorry to correct you Richard but the Seaboard track came downtown South along Lemon Avenue from behind the power plant at 10th A few blocks South of the "new" station at Main Street it curved onto Pineapple Avenue until it crossed Orange Avenue at "Herald Square" The building that sits in that triangle is still there & Orange Avenue is East of it I'll send Buckles a photo of that Herald Square intersection as well as 1 of the original station on Lemon Ave just North of Main St that was built by the U.S. & West Indies Railroad & Steamship Company in 1903
The 2 buildings on the left are still there Richard & the tracks were still there in 72 when I moved down here
The building at the left was Norton's Camera for many years & now is the home of Patrick's with the very best hamburgers The next 2 story joint has been a dozen different restaurants & now I think it's Salute'
