From Sue Lenz #1

A couple of pictures of Rosie the elephant and my Mother, Olga Astley Yelding taken I would guess in the mid 1930's

Did the Yeldings also have a show

I'm guessing that Astley Royal

Circus overlapped the years of

the Lord Sanger's Circus Sue

Rosie was also the name of the

elephant that portrayed Jumbo in

the Hippodrome Broadway version

with Jimmy Durante

I wonder if these 2 tubs were cut

from a single barrel which might

be why the 1 on the right has an

added top lid to cover the hole

I remember Smokey saying that he recalled having to polish the brass rings on these type of bull tubs.

To Mrs Lenz, is this the same Rosie that came from Bostock and Wombwell with an elephant called Dixie and they both lived at Whipsnade when it opened in 1931. Appreciate any help.
