The previous season of 1937, saw Mabel at Benson's, breaking an 8-tiger act which was intended for sale. She returned to that disjointed, ramshackle winterquarters Barnes-Sells Floto struggled with in Baldwin Park, and there, in 5 weeks, she assembled her largest act of 18 to 22 mixed lions and tigers. Reviews of the 1938 season cite these varying counts. When Ringling's features were added in Redfield, South Dakota, some acts were cut due to the length of the show--such as Dolly Jacobs riding lions. But Mabel's act remained a fixture. At season's end, she left the road and began her 30 years at the Compound in Thousand Oaks.
