I'm always impressed when I see
wardrobe like this knowing just
how difficult it must have been
to maintain it all by hand
I'd love to see a collection of
"rainy day" wardrobe photos if in
fact such records exist
My dad was in the US Navy in the 50's. He said that one of the things they learned in boot camp was to always wash your hands before you touched your 'whites' uniform. (especially going to the restroom!)
I can't imagine keeping those white costumes looking so good, especially on a mud lot and working so closely with animals.
Back in the Revolutionary War, the French Army had white uniforms. They would maintain the color by dusting them with white clay powder. Or so I have read.
