Removing the elephant blankets that were worn during the opening. The elephant in the middle is wearing the special howdah/platform that Michu rode on. Speaking of Michu, while the show was in San Diego, I once encountered him in the backyard as he was walking back from his big motor home, which was parked nearby. To be polite, I acknowledge him by saying, Michu, wie geht’s? and he responded with something which was probably Hungarian. (Maybe it was “Go to hell,” or something worse!) I also recall that, at one performance in San Diego, he was too “spiffed” to appear in one of his specialty numbers. In his place, a female clown appeared with her little dog and did an admirable job of filling in as a solo act.
