1980 Blue Show #11

The 110th Edition’s Spec had an outer space theme. (The excitement caused by the original Star Wars film had not yet subsided. In fact, its much-anticipated sequel The Empire Strikes Back would be released in December 1980.) Lest anyone think that this “circus in outer space” theme was something new, in 1905 when the Hippodrome Theater first opened in New York City, its initial offering was “A Yankee Circus on Mars,” an elaborate production that had featured circus acts working in fantastic, extraterrestrial settings!

These photos were taken back when Mattel still owned the show and when there was seemingly unlimited amounts of money available for Don Foote’s wardrobe creations, elephant blankets, elaborate spec floats, special musical arrangements, etc.
