WALLACE BEERY RADIO SHOW W/MABEL STARK At TOP is the formal card Buster Cronin created to promote Mabel Stark's appearance with Wallace Beery on the premiere of his Shell Oil interview show. I didn't try to edit this scanned page, so the ambiance of Mabel's scrapbooking style can be enjoyed. Her newspaper clippings are glued onto beige paper, most with long articles folded back. These are all legible, but yellowed and fragile. As noted on the August 10th posting with the Wallace Beery photo, Mabel arrived by stretcher from Methodist Hospital. She had been severely mauled by her tigress Nellie, on September 21. Headlines raved again, when two days later, on the 23rd, actor Charles Bickford was attacked by the lion Tarzan, while filming East of Java, at Universal. Tarzan was described as a former Clyde Beatty lion. The press had a field day comparing the injuries and recoveries of two stars of the circus and the movies.
