After the closing of Jungleland, most of us were left without work. Through the recommendation of Parley Baer, Eleanor Velarde called to offer me the tiger act on Circo Atayde. She invited me to her home, on Wood Street, down in Los Angeles, to begin negotiations. It was a pleasure to meet her father, who was Mexico's first lion trainer. The complications involved in getting me into Mexico were beyond Miss Velarde's capacities as an agent, and the required paperwork never materialized.
