The Super Circus band was under the
direction of Bruce Chase. Like Bill
Pruyn, Chase was a classically-trained musician and a world-class arranger. In
addition to conducting the band, he also did all of the show’s special music
and came up with appropriate music for those acts that didn't have any. His band was made up of "first call" Chicago
musicians who gave a good account of themselves while accompanying the
acts. (Comparing the selections that were played back to what is being used
today provides a clear indication of how low the art of programming circus music
has fallen in recent years!)
