The last times I actually worked a show with Lee was when he was on Castle for select dates in '72 & '73. We hit it off and shared viewpoints over a few ice cold beers. Jeanette was a beautiful lady and quite capable assisting Lee. Tommy was magnificent and, thank God, a good guy to be around. In one town, we were assigned cage space in a tight barn with not only Bert Pettus's five Castle bulls, but the Diano five as well. After each show, I had to roll the cage wagons into this barn and crowd past Tommy to line them up. I said, "Steady, Tommy", like he'd listen to me. He quietly shifted over and made room for me to roll the cats by. He could have sapped us into another county, but he acted like he wanted to help. What a moment with the industry's most admired tusker. Years later, I was saddened to see Lee's career draw to an unhappy close. He was a friend. May he rest in peace.
