Thanks Roger for reminding us about his passing.
The Gold standard of cat acts.

In the early spring of 1961 in
Commack with my 1st opportunity
to work frontlight for a circus
I quickly learned the meaning
of "The One And Only"
"Your Attention Please To The
Steel Bound Arena Where You Are
About To See The Incomparable
Black Maned Jungle Bred Nubian
Lions & Royal Bengal Tigers
In One Assemblage Trained And
Presented By The One And Only
Clyde Beatty" (pick him up)
"Pick Him Up" is a lighting cue

Clyde Beatty on "What's My Line". Aired Sunday, November 25, 1962 prior to the big Christmas Circus at the New York City Coliseum.
The object of the game is to determine the identity of the guest or the guest's occupation by asking questions that can only be answered with a "yes" or "no".
Clyde Beatty was so well known that he was introduced as "Mr. X".
What's My Line was shown live from New York City on Sunday nights and was one of the top ten shows during its 16 years on air.
The panelists on this episode are well-known and well-informed celebrities which adds to the fun of figuring out the identity of Mr. X.
For those of the younger generations, the panelists are:
Dorothy Kilgallen, gossip columnist/journalist
Martin Gebel, actor, director, producer (spouse of Arlene Francis)
Arlene Francis, tv/radio actress, radio show host and long time WML panelist
Bennett Cerf, humorist, author and founder of the publishing giant Random House

Thanks, Mike, for the "What's My Line" link. Always enjoyed the show.
That certainly settles the pronunciation of his name!!
Sure sorry I missed the circus
at the Coliseum.

This is the same day on which Gunther Gebel-Williams died--an incredible coincidence.
Dick Flint

And on that same date in 1969
Mary Jo Kopechne drowned in the
back of Teddy Kennedy's car
A crime that was never paid for
