This must have been the time when the expression, "Hold onto your hats!" became popular. The only exception was Ole Whitey in his youth, 4th from right.
This and likely photos 5 and 6 are from a large set of photos snap on the lot by someone with a panoramic camera, popular with some amateurs at the time. I'd welcome knowing more about this set and who might have any photographs from it. I have only one that I believe to be an original print obtained years ago from the immortal dealer P. M. McClintock. Dick Flint Baltimore
Dick: Those panoramic cameras were popular for convention pix. Some wiseacre would always manage to get in the pic twice (at both ends) by running around behind the photographer.
Ole Whitey, Those convention pictures usually large format camera and produced prints 3 and 4 FEET wide. The camera that took those Forepaugh-Sells pics for smaller and designed for the amateur market. Their print size is quite small, about 2 x 5 inches and with not quite as wide panoramic view. It's nice to be remembered.
