The Stewart O’Nan book on the Hartford fire also discusses previous circus fires including the 1910 Barnum & Bailey Schenectady fire and the 1942 Cleveland fire, which destroyed the menagerie tent.
When we played Cleveland for the Grotto, there was a spectacular view from the arena's back door down on Lake Erie, the Ball Park and the immediate area. But my mind would always fixate on the area of where the Ringling menagerie tent was ablaze.
