The Wagons Roll At Night #35

. . . Nick gets a little too close to Caesar, a lion considered too dangerous to use in the act.

Although we must assume that some sort of special effects trickery was used for this shot of the lion taking a swipe at Bogie, on screen, it looks real.

This is one of the 1st two rules we teach new cagehands: "Any cat will reach out of any enclosure and snare anything nearby with the claws." Number 2: "Anything introduced into a cage will be instantly bitten or clawed." Both rules meaning, "Watch yourself and your distance from cage bars and footboards. Once you're hooked, any try at a rescue may not succeed." So, guess what--a fan who hung around a certain DeLand cat act received these warnings, as we noticed he wasn't looking out. With a straight face, he told me, Ned, and Cindy Potter, "Oh, I don't think they can reach out. I'm not the stupid kind of fan." To which I replied we were then absolved of further responsibility for him. We see that no one explained the rules to Bogie.
