Okie showed up at Jungleland, in 1967, coming up dead broke from Circo Bell, in Mexico. He was alone, living in his car, trying to sell his boots so he could eat. He got on with us, and if you knew Okie, you remember how quick he was to become a friend. We swapped cat acts with each other, and knocked back many a beer. In time, his family came--Karen, and daughters Andrea and newborn Dawn Marie. They lived in part of the old Rock House, next door to Mabel Stark. Then, they were gone. Okie returned to Carson & Barnes, and in '68, he was attacked by that lioness in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. He survived and lived out his career with Mr. Miller. I take comfort in knowing wherever he is, Okie is laughing.

Okie was the one who taught me something about cat acts. He was happy to let me have the act so he could spend most of his time with the elephants.
He wasn't much about talking about the past so I never got to learn about his Mexican adventures.
Thanks Rodger for some insight. He was sure one of a kind.
