My Dad wrote on the back:
"Beatty's Jungle Zoo & Circus, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Beverly Bernard and "Alice".

There has always been some question about this Alice.

Beatty mentioned her in his book Jungle Performers. Chang quoted your dad as saying she was a 1925 import by Ruhe & Joseph, went to Hall and we assume leased out over the years. Luke Anderson said she was bought by Bud but sold back to Hall.

Sold to Cole Bros- not with the 1935 bunch but in 1936. Kept at Rochester, never trouped with Cole and then to Beatty's Jungle Zoo in 1939.

Charles Sprague found a notice in the Ft Lauderdale newspaper dated May 18, 1939, saying an elephant had arrived from Rochester, IN.

Richard Reynolds adds that Matthew Ferguson bought her from Beatty but was soon drafted so gave her to the Atlanta Zoo where she lived until 1971.

Other possibilities suggested have been Sun Bros Alice and One-Eyed Alice.
