The Barnes Show didn't march the elephants to the lot empty handed as seen in this picture.
"Might as well take something with you as long as you're headed in that direction!"
It worked the same way on the way back at night then toss the harnesses under the wagons on the flats, not wear them all night like the baggage stock.
The stories of those hand brakes on a steep decline are legend.
