1952 Kelly-Miller #16

Long narrow 100' push pole top with 8 center poles and canvas that laced across the center ring and loaded on a canvas spool truck in two pieces.
Easy up and easy down, 340' in length, 40' longer than Beatty-Cole but 50' narrower and much lower.
No rigging other than  the webs and Evalina Rossi's trap act.

I liked the story D.R. used to tell about the time Cliff Vargas visited hoping to pick up some pointers on how to move his show faster.
After the performance he invited Cliff into the pie car and after a sandwich and a few stories said, "Well, let's see how they're doing!"
A shocked Cliff found that everything was down and loaded and D.R. said, "Now what did you want to know?"

If the center poles were evenly

spaced & the ends were half of

the 100 ft round then the space

between the poles was about 34'

Or were they unevenly spaced

I didnt get over there till 64 but they still had push poles and some of them had developed dry rot. I recall one splintering and damn near making a shish kebab out of Pete Smith. Dory would send guys out to the woods to cut down trees for side poles, very messu during the early part of the season as resin still seeped out of them. Because of the territory we had several blowdowns, EVERYBODY on the show knew how to use a PALM and make a baseball stitch. Does anybody remember when D.R. took a boat show out and it sank in Nova Scotia??? (1963).
