Eloise Berchtold and her African male KOA. He was trained by her and did a very good routine, but got to a point that he would not go on stage at a show in Chicago McCormick place. Also thru her down, etc. Typical African I believe.
There has been a debate over whether it was Koa of Teak who killed Eloise. I've seen both named as absolutely responsible. Who can be conclusive about this?
In the early 1960s Eloise appeared at the Toledo Zoo with Koa, the Paramount Bears, and trained the cage act. Looks like the stage of the large ampitheater at theater at the Zoo.

I believe he was one of he bulls taken by Ringling on the South American tour around 1960.

My haste needs correcting: not "of" Teak, but was it Koa OR Teak? Teak took the life of Allen Campbell in Honolulu. Which elephant killed Eloise?

Indeed this is the "WPA" built
amphitheater in Toledo Zoo that
after laying nearly dormant for
several years back in the 80s
I was brought out to help with
some enhancements to return it
to "Summer Events" service that
including designing & building
a new "portable" sound system
A great facility to work in
This photo shows her performing
down in front of the stage
