This is Eloise on the Polack Show in 1966, quite a contrast after Pat Anthony the previous year.
One night while loading out she told me that she was in a hurry since she planned on swinging by Cincinnati to visit "Koa".
The next day I asked her how it went and she started crying and said that while waiting in the office to see the Zoo Director she asked someone how "Koa" was doing and was told, "You're sitting on him!" Apparently he had wranged up once too often and they did him in, tanned his hide and upholstered the furniture."
I remember back when Kelly Miller was building his mansion in Hugo across from the winter quarters, one of Little Bob Stevens' elephants "Sparks Babe" died out at the Fair Grounds and Kelly did the same thing but went one step further by having the head mounted in his game room.
Fast forward to 1978 while in the Garden, Charly Bowman came up to me and said, "There's a rumor that some woman up in Canada with five male elephants got killed, having never heard of Eloise he added that it was probably some kind of a joke. I told him, "I don't think it's a joke."

Wasn't Eloise an early wife of
John Cuneo
The complete story of Berchtold's being killed in the ring was told in Giovanni Iuliani's "Eloise Berghtold's Last Performance," BANDWAGON magazine, Nov-Dec 2003
Yes, Eloise was married to Cuneo. She told me quite a lot about it.
I remember that day we were there and you told me.
Thank you, Richard Reynolds. I knew I'd seen the story somewhere. As noted earlier today, I need to rummage through my 14 trunks to relocate these references.
